Turkey had spent decades striving to raise the “Kemalist” - TopicsExpress

Turkey had spent decades striving to raise the “Kemalist” generations to which its secularist founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk aspired. Today, the state and education systems are being redesigned to raise “pious generations.” In sum, the malady of imposing a certain worldview and religion on its citizens continues to plague the Turkish state. This has always been the fundamental problem in not just Turkey but in all Muslim countries: education exists NOT to teach knowledge and creative reasoning, but rather as the most basic form of ideological indoctrination. Generations of Turkish students were taught to be unquestioningly loyal to the secular-nationalist state, and now generations will be taught unquestioning loyalty to conservative Sunni Islam... Yet this is exactly why the Muslim world can never attain the one thing it wants more than anything else: respect. The world respects those who contribute to global culture and science... yet Islamic states persist in denying their students the tools needed to do just that. In fact they do just the opposite, using education as a weapon to blunt knowledge and creativity... after all, its far easier to rob a country blind and make it your personal playground when the citizens are thoughtless drones, not individuals capable of independent thought. I dont even care whether you are trying to create a generation of militant secularists or conservative Muslims... no state has the right to take advantage of children and waste their lives like that...
