Turkish citizens rise up against the war Anti-war voices are being raised from the Turkish provinces in Syria border, as the war policy on Syria of the ruling party of Turkey the AKP invokes the reaction of citizens. Citizens living in Antakya, a province of Turkey near the Syrian border, have reacted to the war policy of the AKP and a possible US intervention into Syria. They have said that the AKP’s stance had lead to fighting between the people of the two nation. Here are the reactions of people: Nadir Akyürek: “We are in the centre. The war will affect us first. Syrians should go back to their country. By this way, we will both feel comfortable. I don’t want a war”. Refik Sürmeli: “How is it that we say ‘two state - one nation’ for Azerbaijan and Turkey, but we also say the same for Syria. The intended war policy is absolutely wrong. We as tradesmen become victims. Our business was going well two or three years ago but now we are earning money under very hard conditions. The USA is coming from 15,000 km away and tries to dominate Syria. We disapprove of this. We do not accept a war as the people of this country. PM Erdogan’s policy is absolutely wrong. They kill innocent people for oil and unearned income. I say let’s think of the women and children who are going to suffer, and stand against the war”. Ali Yeral, the president of Ehl-i Beyt (Ahl al-Bayt) Culture and Solidarity Foundation, has evaluated the AKP government’s policy of war against Syria. Yerel said in his statement: “They talk about a war memorandum and invasion of Syria. Our Alawi and Sunni brothers, as well as Christian/Armenian citizens, have their relatives over there. For what reason will we start a war against our neighbour and brother Syria? Do we start a war for the interest of the US or Greater Middle East Zionists? If the war starts, we will bomb our brothers and sisters”. Regional President of Workers’ Party in Hatay, Bülent Sakuçoğlu, underlined that the government and the imperialist countries have been warmongering in recent days and said “The Brotherhood Against The War platform in Antakya makes reasonable efforts in this regard. Youths are handing out flyers, putting up posters, and there is much support from the public. We have received positive responses”.
