Turning Nigerian Economy Into A Productive Haven-Part 3 For sometimes now we have been pondering on how we can achieve greatness in term of development in Nigeria, even when we live in the midst of plenty. I did write in the last two editions on how we can benefit from Agricultural and human resources at our domain. Each on of us can feel the the opportunity far and wide the territory in terms of nature, nomenclature and position in the continents. This nation is the most blessed. But,why are we suffering without a known cause? The simple answer is just a misplaced priority. We have put our wishbone where our backbone could have occupied. We copy foreign policies without recourse to our background and traditions.Anyway,If policymakers can buy from this free offer,it may profit some portion of this cloudy Nigeria. What can $1billion achieve in a year? Having written on laying fowls and catfishes,I would like to give a brief summary of what can be done on some economically important items before moving on non-Agric. items in the subsequent bulletin.More than 200million economic trees such as Tick,Melina and Palm trees can be produced from this money @500 naira per stand. We dont need to train people for this to happen neither do we need land to accommodate them.I bet it,more than 1million youths will benefit if 1000 stands is allocated per person. Apart from the monetary gain, the benefit of growing trees to stem climate change will be rewarded. What a country? The spate of tree felling in the name of generating revenue is alarming. We are not replenishing the earth, and we roll out annual ritual all in the name of climate change awareness, and conferences are held.If monies for this campaign are channeled to tree planting, the better for us. It is as simple as ABC.Friends,I must be honest with you,we do not need foreign investment in Agriculture before things can change and we have more than enough graduates to employ without training.I do not subscribe to the school of thought which says that Nigerian university graduates are not employable. The authors of that saying are mischievous and have no basis for such. If presidency could budget 24billion naira for computers and stationery in Aso rock, why not spend less than 3.3% on projects as this looking at its enormous contributions to our GDP, and eventual job creation? This is the time for us to channel our energy, strife, anger, emotion, pride, ego, rivalry and above all, our oil revenues into a productive means.May God bless Nigeria.
