Turning the Tide BIBLE READING: 1Timothy 2:1-4 “I exhort - TopicsExpress

Turning the Tide BIBLE READING: 1Timothy 2:1-4 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” When I was no more than a boy I used to work for a company that did much of its work along the coast line of Texas. I to learned love the water and one of the things that always intrigued me as young man was the changing of the tide. As we’d go out to work the tides were important to us. Sometimes we would work in water other times on dry ground. Just as there are tides in the oceans there are also tides in nations as well. America saw a tide of revival sweep in, in the “First and Second Great Awakenings.” In the early 18th century and the late 19th century each of these "Great Awakenings" was characterized by widespread revivals led by evangelical Protestant ministers, a sharp increase of interest in religion. However today we’ve seen a different type tide. At this lowest point, when the tide is as low as it can get, may God grant that we see the tide begin to turn, back the other way, back to decency in America, back to standing up for the unborn, traditional marriage, and a return to true Christianity. We need to look up. Only God can help us. We need to confess our sin and turn from our wicked ways. We need to speak up and we need to stand up for what is right and pray. 2Chronicles 7:14 is indeed a good starting place for God’s people to pray, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” But dear friends praying without turning is a waste of time. God will only listen to an earnest prayer. Look at what God has to say in 2Chronicles 7:19 “But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.” God Bless
