Turning the zero-tolerance cannabis policy back onto the employer - TopicsExpress

Turning the zero-tolerance cannabis policy back onto the employer today: To Whom It May Concern: It is with disappointment that I retract my interest in your medical records technician position. As a chronic pain patient who has benefited from the daily use of cannabis for the last five years, your zero-tolerance policy is unacceptable. Some may even say discriminatory, based on my physical disability. You see, it was cannabis that made it possible for me to consider rejoining the workforce. After I finally rejected dangerous pharmaceuticals due to their lack of effectiveness and the intensity of their side effects, I reluctantly turned to marijuana at my doctors suggestion in 2009. I was a reluctant red card holder, and had never used marijuana in any form until I received my MMJ license. I was 40 years old. I used cannabis because there were no other options. I had tried everything else. Im a mother. My son was a DARE graduate, and now proudly serves our U.S. military with a top-secret security clearance. His formative teenage years were spent with a mother who used cannabis every day. He will tell you that cannabis is medicine; hes seen its effectiveness with his own eyes. Because of cannabis, my daily fibromyalgia pain is manageable, tolerable. Because of cannabis, Ive dropped 100 lbs, and gone off insulin. Because of cannabis, I enjoy life again, and no longer live under the dark cloud of major depression. Because of cannabis, Im well enough to finally return to work after an eight-year hiatus. And Im really excited about that! It is unfortunate that your company thinks that cannabis users are unable to manage sensitive patient information. And it is unfortunate that your company will not benefit from my knowledge, skills and experience, due to that misinformed and prejudiced point of view. I wish you well in your candidate search.
