Tutorial on Tennis Elbow. If you suffer from Tennis Elbow you may be wondering why it is so difficult to rehab and heal. The truth is that Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis is a misnomer. Epicondylitis infers that there is inlalmmation. Actually there is no inflammation. The tendon involved in this injury is the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis. If you biopsy this tendon in those who have Lateral Epicondylitis, you wont find any inflammation or inflammatory cells! What you see Histologically is a thickened tendon with collagen fibers in disarray. This is by definition a Tendinosis not a Tendinitis! This is why traditional therapies designed to treat inflammation dont work. The healing process is about a 4 week cycle. Inflammatory cells migrate to the injured tissue and shut down after 4 weeks. If healing is not complete then you end up with Tendinosis. If you Insite Inflammation at the end of the 4 week cycle, you can bring the inflammatory cells back to continue the healing process. This can be done with what is called PROLO THERAPY. Prolo Therapy injects a concentrated sugar solution (sometimes mixed with a small amount of parafin oil) over the injured tissue. This local injection Irritates the injured tissue causing an inflammatory response. You need to repeat this every 4 weeks. Usually after 3 to 6 treatments the area is healed. Prolo Therapy can be used for other chronic injuries as well. If you think you might benefit from Prolo Therapy find a local Physician who is adept at administering this therapy. God Bless.
