Twas The Night Before Christmas- Saline County Style: By: Bethany Bradley and Laurie Lentz Twas the night before Christmas And all through the base All Docs employees were sleeping With the covers over their face The rigs were all nesseled in the garage with care In hopes that no one would have to go anywhere With Mark in his sleeping shorts and I in my lingerie We snuggled up tight in hopes we would get to stay When out the scanner there arose such a clatter We jumped in our boots and began to scatter Its a 10-50 Dougie toned with a rushed explanation Theres reindeer everywhere and youll need extrication. Reindeer? I thought as I grabbed all my gear This is southern Illinois, why would reindeer be here? We threw up the garage doors and took off in a flash With lights and sirens screaming we made a mad dash We arrived at the scene and couldnt believe our eyes In the ditch was a man in a sleigh With very large thighs Im stuck!! He said, Get me out quickly you must!! If you dont get me out Christmas will be a bust!! Stay calm Mike said as he approached with a C-Collar We will help you, I promise. There is no reason to holler. While Crystal and Lisa got immobilizing equipment from the truck Jim Bob was trying to wrangle all the reindeer and wasnt having much luck It was chaos everywhere as far as the eye could see With the fat guy in the red jumpsuit and the reindeer trying to flee Danny got on the radio to ETA the fire truck But it was Harrisburg Fire and we were out of town so we were out of luck It was up to us to dislodge the bearded fat guy We werent sure if we could do it but we were definitely going to try We all took our place around the jolly fat man Grabbing ahold of him the best that we can Ill count to three and then we all pull. Dave explained He counted to three and we all began to strain Its useless, Jason said after much effort in vain Hes too wedged in there and we will need a freaking crane!! Just then Tracy Felty showed up and said to Laurie Where are all the news crews? No one would believe this story!! With an extra set of hands this gave us an advantage With one more person, Stacey said, We may be able to manage With a great big tug the jolly man broke free Thank you Saline County employees for saving Christmas, and me!! Laurie asked, To the hospital do you want to go? With rosy cheeks and a laugh he replied, No No No. If you are not hurt then please sign here. Then we will help you gather up all your reindeer. Just then the fat man laid a finger on his nose And with some unseen magic the sleigh arose With the sleigh back on the road and the reindeer in a row The man took back his seat up front and said HO HO HO The reindeer began to prance in great anticipation Sarah looked at the paper and thought it was her imagination Hey guys, she said, This refusal is signed Kris Kringle!! Just as she said that the bells on the sleigh started to jingle On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer on Vixon On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen The man and his transport rose and flew out of sight We all sat astonished that we saw them take flight Back again at the base all warm in our beds With thoughts of the scene replaying in our heads We all sat giggling at the thought of the sight When we hear Linda whisper, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!
