Twenty six years ago today, my name was called over the PA at the Dean Dome in Raleigh, NC, while I was watching Syracuse in a first round NCAA playoff game. My sister Ann was calling to let me know that my beloved father, John Henry Brophy, had passed away at the age of 84. It was somewhat expected, as he had been slipping deeper into the grip of Alzheimers, but one is never prepared to lose ones Dad. My sister put it into perspective by telling me to celebrate his life, as it was St. Patricks Day, and to not leave the tournament until Syracuse played the next day, as Dad would have wanted it no other way and she was delaying all arrangements for the following week. To all my friends and family that knew and loved him, make a toast to Hank or Grampa and remember him with a laugh and a beer on one of his favorite days of the year, and GO Cuse!
