Twenty three veterans who were on Christmas Island in 1958 during nuclear testing will receive compensation from the government. Each veteran will receive over nine thousand dollars. Head of the taskforce team Jioji Washington has confirmed the first compensation payment will be made on Friday. “The priority to recipients are those whose veteran who have passed on and we now focusing on the spouse and also the children those dependants .Those dependants to us meaning those who are born after the Christmas island operations and those who were affected or those who have gone through the sufferings and ailments over the years those children will be classified under priority two while priority three those claimer who had alleged that their parents had gone to Christmas island but that will be undergo certain process.” A second payment will be made sometime between February and September while the third payment will be given at the last quarter of the year.
