Twenty three years ago, I made my first trip to the Neshoba County Fair because Wayne Dowdy, then a candidate for Governor asked me to come because he was going to mention me in his speech. It all started because of an article written by Joe Atkins, brother in law to my neighbors in Nettleton. Joe found out that I had bought a $25 ad to be place in the Nettleton Horse Show program for the Dowdy campaign out of money I earned working after school at Rogers Auto Parts. Mr. Dowdy read the article and decided to reach out to me. We didnt have a telephone at home so he called me at work. Ill never forget thinking that I was talking to a man running for Governor! What a great, and sometimes rough, twenty four years its been since that day in 1991. I made connections that day that have truly altered my life. I look forward to returning to those fairgrounds tomorrow for another day of politics!
