Twice in as many days I have been rebuked by Christians offended by my use of the term "Zionism" in its well-known political context. From Wikipedia, -- Zionism (Hebrew: ציונות, Tsiyonut; Arabic: صهيونية, Șahyouniyyah) is a form of nationalism of Jews and Jewish culture that supports a Jewish nation state in the territory defined as the Land of Israel.[1] Zionism supports Jews upholding their Jewish identity, opposes the assimilation of Jews into other societies and has advocated the return of Jews to Israel as a means for Jews to be a majority in their own nation, and to be liberated from antisemitic discrimination, exclusion, and persecution that had historically occurred in the diaspora. -- The argument is that since there is a correct Biblical doctrine concerning righteous Zionism, defined as looking forward in faith to the coming kingdom of God (Zion) on earth, then I should not disgrace the holy by using deceptive worldly terms. My response is this: When I refer to the mainstream Mormon church, in order to contrast it with breakaway Mormon factions, I will use the term LDS, knowing full well that there is not a single latter day saint in that church. I will refer to the Roman Catholic Church, or RCC, knowing full well that it is not the true catholic (universal) church of Christ. I will refer to the various Orthodox Christian churches such as the Russian and Greek, knowing that there is much not truly orthodox in their doctrine and tradition. I will refer to Orthodox Judaism, though I usually term it Talmudism, knowing that it is not the true orthodox faith of Abraham. If I were to give all these false religions truly honest names, I would be unable to communicate with anyone about the organizations. I use their self-given names by necessity of mutual understanding. If I were to give an honestly descriptive name to the political Zionism, it would be Jewish Nazism.
