Twice today the topic of parenting has been brought up. The consensus is thus: parents dont parent anymore. Children have no discipline, parents are arrested for spanking their children or disciplining them in public. And thats just the parents who care. Lots of parents dont. The government rewards them for having children so they just keep popping them out. It leads to a generation of kids who are not only lazy and overweight, but have no work ethic, no respect, and no morals. I am glad that my parents cared enough to discipline me. I got spanked when I deserved it, I got time out, and grounded. Nobody handed me a car on my 16th birthday or college tuition after I graduated. I didnt always like my parents. They often embarrassed me. (What is more embarrassing: the constant terrible singing or the see through swim suits?) They still often embarrass me. Sometimes I thought they were mean, or didnt care, or didnt know what they were talking about. Now I know that sometimes they really didnt know what they were talking about. But sometimes, they knew exactly what was going on and disciplined me BECAUSE they cared. I am very grateful for them and everything they have done for me.
