Twiggy came to me in June after having been trapped by Animal Control. She was so skinny that no-one expected her to be pregnant when she went in for her spay. She was full but starvation had left her and her kittens in very poor shape. After her spay she returned to the shelter but her milk had begun to come in. When three week old kittens were brought in they were offered to her and she took them eagerly. Then she took another four...and then an eighth. It was clear to me that she was struggling to keep up and so I brought her home and we shared the feedings. I took days and she took nights. She weighed less than four pounds. When even sharing was too much and she was in danger of dying I reluctantly separated her and took charge of her babies. Its not what she wanted but what she needed. For a long time she would only eat the most expensive foods. Her lymphnodes were so swollen swallowing was painful and she wouldnt groom herself or her kittens. Her URI was so bad she would have nose bleeds and her body was so depleted she would leave broken fur wherever she rested. She also was not socialized, wouldnt allow me to touch her and bit me with feeling anytime I tried to give her medication. Eventually she started to relax and trust me. Her appetite returned and became a thing of wonder. One weekend she ate a full five oz can of food every hour. I used an entire case of food in two days. At this point dry was still not an option because of the condition of her mouth. Two weeks after separating her from her kittens I let her rejoin them if she chose. I opened the room they were in and Her walk in. She trilled and delight and touched them all with her paw, rolling in the floor with them like a kitten herself. She loves babies, all babies and all babies are her babies. Like, seriously, she will steal babies. She had eight pretend babies that I found at Goin To The Dogs. Girl is mental about babies. I call her octo-mom. She is now 8 pounds on the nose having more than doubled her size.She loves to be petted and played with and she literally gallops through house leaping and trilling with joy. She loves toys, other cats and food. She isnt particularly outgoing until she knows you but she will warm up quickly in a quite home with decent noms. I would like to see her in a home without dogs and absolutely indoor only. She has proved that she does not do well outdoors. As she still gets very scared in new situations I am requesting she go no more than an hour from Huntsville, AL. She would not do well on an extended trip.
