Twin Cities Residential Building Code Draft has loud cries coming - TopicsExpress

Twin Cities Residential Building Code Draft has loud cries coming from housing advocates. The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), and the Builders Association of MN, and other business groups jointly oppose the draft. As industry professionals, in their scope of view, it would be a costly and unnecessary home indoor sprinkler mandate included in the draft of the updated residential building code released today by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI). The mandate would require home indoor sprinklers to be placed in all single-family homes that are 4,500 total square feet and above (including basements and other unfinished spaces). Our builders did report a bit more hesitation on the part of buyers during the fall Parade of Homes. While plenty of people were out looking, the government shutdown appeared to have a slight chilling effect on actual contracts. The industry is also feeling more cautious right now as the just-released residential building code draft, if approved as written, would have a huge impact on affordability, ~ Pamela Belz, Builders Association of the Twin Cities 2013 president and developer with Senior Housing Partners Contact Home Destination at 612-396-7832 if you are seeking to buy a Minneapolis home. homedestination/real-estate-blog/twin-cities-residential-building-code-draft-may-hurt-affordability
