Twisted perversions of the truth with single minded devotion to ones own narcissistic drives and desires are very hard to reason with. That is because logic and objectivity are not accepted into that arena as it would burst the bubble on which they rest or even crumble the walls of their false empire. This is driven by pure emotion and selfishness. I say stay the course as this will resolve itself in due time.
