Two Important classes available at UAA for Alaska Native students interested! Introduction to Alaska Native Business – 1 cr – AKNS A290 lower div – CRN: 80938 – Seats available – Meets just two Friday’s in November – 8th and 15th - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days at UAA UAA’s Alaska Native Studies and College of Business and Public Policy have teamed with KPMG to offer this unique 1 credit course. This course helps students: Connect with Alaska Native Leaders, examine career opportunities in Alaska Native Corporations, and develop business skills. This course also provides an overall introduction to Alaska Native Corporations, Corporate Governance and includes a wonderful Alaska Native Corporations Leaders Panel discussion for students. Alaska Native Business Management – 3 cr – BA A490A upper division – CRN 77883 – Seats available – Meets on Wednesday’s Fall Semester 2013 at 5:30 – 8:15 p.m. This course includes the history, development and management of Alaska Native corporations. Students explore the economic and social impact of Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Students gain a deeper understanding of the Alaska Native corporation structure, their strategies, goals, investment practices and management practices; and explores their unique charter and mission. Students discuss the definition of success for an Alaska Native corporation and compare that to the definition of success for mainstream non-Native corporations. Future challenges for Native corporations and contemporary issues are also explored.
