Two Individuals Indicted on Theft 1 Related to Play it Again Sports On August 5, 2014 Beaverton Police Detectives were contacted by a Target store representative regarding multiple thefts of sporting good merchandise. Detectives were told a male would enter the stores and select sporting good merchandise and placing the items in a shopping cart. Detectives were told the male would then walk out of the store with the merchandise without purchasing the items. A Beaverton Police Detective recognized the style of theft and knew Matthew Poorman 49 years old had previously been arrested for similar style thefts from Fred Meyers located at 11425 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. During a scheduled meeting with Target on the above date the detective showed a photo of Poorman to the Target representative. The Target representative confirmed Poorman as the suspect in the thefts of sporting good merchandise. Detectives then requested to be notified if Poorman entered any of their Target stores. Approximately two hours after concluding their meeting detectives were contacted by the Target representative. The detectives were told Poorman was inside the Target store located at 10775 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Beaverton, Oregon. Detectives were told Poorman had selected sporting good merchandise and had placed it in a shopping cart. Detectives started surveillance on Poorman when he left the store with stolen sporting goods. While conducting surveillance detectives witnessed Poorman exit the store and walk the stolen merchandise to this vehicle and place the items inside. After placing the merchandise inside his vehicle Poorman exited the parking lot and drove to Play It Again Sports located at 9244 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Detectives entered the store and witnessed Poorman sell the stolen sporting goods to James Larkins 62 years old, who is the owner of Play it Again Sports. Detectives contacted Larkins and told him that he had been purchasing stolen property from Poorman. It was determined through the investigation that Larkins was aware that these items were and cooperated with this investigation. It was determined that over a five year period Larkins had purchased approximately $60,000.00 (retail price) worth of stolen merchandise from Poorman. Both Poorman and Larkins were indicted on September 9, 2014 by a Washington County Grand Jury. Poorman was indicted for aggravated theft one and Larkins was indicted for theft one. Larkins turned and Poorman were both arrested on these charges on September 18, 2014.
