Two MARVEL UK House Ads, from 5 October 1977 and 7 December 1977 respectively, promoting imported cents-to-pence copies of the two tabloid-sized STAR WARS TREASURIES which were one of the myriad of ways the movie adaptation was reprinted after it turned out to be an unexpected blockbuster. The first edition reprinted, in colour, US issues 1-3, the second 4-6. Take note of the dates: copies went on sale (in the case of the first one) several months before the movie was even released in the UK (27 December 1977, more than six months after its US release) giving Brits an early, and dramatic, peek at the movie. Warning: spoilers ahead. It took MARVEL UK even longer to launch STAR WARS WEEKLY, that didnt appear until February 1978. The delay was probably down to a desire to accumulate as much US inventory as possible before launch and also the slow, regional roll-out of the film across the UK. By February, presumably, the film would have been on general release across the whole of the UK. There was a third treasury which reprinted (again) the movie adaptation in ONE volume.
