Two Maryland men were rescued Tuesday from a run-away dock on the Ohio River. West Virginia Department of Natural Resources officers learned the two men had removed the dock from the bank upriver on the Little Kanawha and had plans to float down to the Mississippi River. The two men, identified as Tyler Jennings, age 22, and Quinn Porter, age 21, were cold and fatigued but otherwise healthy. The DNR office in Parkersburg was notified by 911 around 11:30 a.m. that two individuals had been spotted on a run-away floating dock just north of Blennerhassett Island across from Belpre, Ohio. Officials with the DNR said recent weather had left the river high, muddy and full of debris, which made a rescue attempt difficult and dangerous. Two DNR officers responded to the call in their patrol boat. After a brief search, the two men were found atop the dock near the tip of the Blennerhassett Island mid-channel of the river. Once officers managed to secure the dock to their boat, they pulled it to the Belpre Civitan boat dock where the rescue was completed with the help from Belpre City police officers. Belpre police found drug paraphernalia among the men’s belongings, but no charges had been filed as of Wednesday night. DNR issued a citation to Porter for not having life jackets and one to Jennings for possession of fishing equipment without a fishing license.
