Two Open Positions for PhD in Signal Processing group at University of Genova, Italy I know very well this research group, so i can help you if you have any difficulty in applying 2 positions (3 years) starting in 2014; expiration date for first level applications: September 8th, 2013 Research Areas: Video processing within embodied multi-sensor cognitive artificial systems The proposed PhD involves the study of problems mainly related to understanding of complex scenes from multisensor networks: focus will be on data association and state estimation methods for joint shape/color/position object tracking from multicamera data. Activities will be oriented to address the use of developed methods within bio-inspired cognitive artificial systems for physical security and telecommunications. Possibility will be open during the PhD to join on going funded research projects when available within the joint labs ISIP40 has with industries (e.g Technoaware, Telecom, ligurian industrial district SIIT). Learning within distributed Cognitive Radio networks The proposed PhD involves the study of cognitive radio networks under the viewpoint of designing bio-inspired learning approaches that allow adaptive methods for analysis and decision to evolve under the environmental operating conditions. Focus will be on signal processing methods used at physical level telecommunications to both analyze (e.g. adaptive mode identification, MISM methods) and decision making (e.g. adaptive MIMO beamforming techniques) within an embodied radio framework. Distributed estimation and decision methods will be studied within the context of application of CR to telecommunication systems using advanced wide band modulation techniques like OFDM, MC-CDMA, CDMA in mobile multi-antenna scenarios. Possibility will be open during the PhD to join on going funded research projects when available within the joint labs ISIP40 has with industries (e.g Technoaware, Telecom, ligurian industrial district SIIT). Applications: Applications are invited for 2 PhD open positions, starting between the end of 2013 and thebeginning of 2014 with ISIP40 research group (isip40.it) of the Department of Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications Engineering and Naval Architecture (DITEN), University of Genova – Genova (ITALY). Requirements: Laurea Vecchio Ordinamento or Laurea Specialistica degree for Italian applicants in one of the following fields (or another relate field); Master of Science or equivalent degree for applicants from abroad: Telecommunication Engineering Electronic Engineering Information Engineering IT Computer Science (or Laurea degree in Informatica) Basic knowledge in the following topics: Signal Processing (applicants for Radio field ) Communication Systems (applicants for Radio field ) Pattern Recognition (applicants for both fields) Image/Video Processing (applicants for Video field) English knowledge Deadline for applying: The interested applicants please apply not later than September 8th, 2013. How to apply? The application is divided into two phases. In the first phase the interested applicants should send their complete C.V. and two recommendation letters to Professor Carlo Regazzoni, e-mail: [email protected] Depending on the availability of candidates whose CV fits with requirements, a position will be asked for competition in the PhD call at Genoa University - On line application closing on September 20, 2013 at 12.00 noon (Italian time).
