Two Trees Adam and Eve were created in the image of God and - TopicsExpress

Two Trees Adam and Eve were created in the image of God and were given His authority, blessing and purpose. They were also given choices and more importantly, they were given an opportunity that they didn’t comprehend. There were two trees in the Garden that could determine their destiny. Their identity, authority and purpose did not guarantee their eternal communion with the Father. That would have to be a choice. The fact that Adam and Eve could be tempted demonstrates that their position of sinless perfection was not the same as fully knowing the Father. Full knowledge of the Father would have insulated them from giving heed to the lies of the serpent. Jesus fully knew the Father and was tempted in all ways, yet without sin. Sinless perfection in the Garden did not mean that Adam knew or understood God. But he was in a position to know God and to partake of life if he so chose. When Adam and Eve chose to eat of the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they unleashed the power of sin that immediately contaminated the entire human race. From that moment until the resurrection of Jesus humanity was separated from God. Adam’s sin brought separation, fear, ignorance and ultimately death. Death became the destiny for all men. Not just physical death, but eternal separation from God. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross delivered humanity from death and separation. All sins were forgiven. God reconciled mankind unto Himself. In a symbolic way, mankind finds itself back in the Garden. Once again man is faced with two choices. Our redemption from sin and death is not the final act in this drama. We have simply been given a second chance. Before us lie two paths, two trees. Adam did not eat of the Tree of Life. Though he was God’s man, free from sin, he did not know the Father enough to make the right choice. He chose the wrong tree and he did so with a sinless nature! The Tree of Life is now a Person, Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life. We are once again free to choose our destiny. We make that choice daily. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. (Rom. 8:5)
