University Medical Center CEO Jim Valenti made the announcement at the breakfast meeting of County Commissioner Carlos Leon Wednesday. Leon recalled that Valenti said, Through another party they could help Childrens Hospital survive. There are a lot of details that he hasnt mentioned. Its hard to relay what his plan is. He only said that El Paso First was possibly in the mix. We also learned UMC has placed a lien on Childrens Hospital. Read our full story now at: bit.ly/1w2QAXc 2 - We uncovered details we uncovered on the incredibly large amount of money UMC CEO Jim Valenti could get if hes with the county hospital through the end of his contract. A deferred compensation plan, signed back in 2005 and amended in 2006, states Valenti will receive a large percentage of his base salary for every year hes been with the hospital, if he stays CEO another year and a half. The total he could receive would top three million dollars - over and above his base pay and bonuses. Valentis current annual base salary is nearly $460,000, meaning he would earn about $184,000 in deferred compensation this year plus that 57% tax kicker. That does not include annual bonuses, which he has received every year since arriving at UMC. This year he received a bonus of nearly $120,000 despite more than 50 layoffs at the hospital.
