Two boys, 16 at the most, one with his head on the shoulder of the other. From time to time they smile at one another. It takes me a moment to register that theyre lovers. My surprise turns to pride and respect and admiration. How can people so young be so brave? But its Sydney, its 2015. What has anyone got to be brave about? Maybe the courage not to give a shit about the fact that their love even instigates a public reaction. Maybe the bravery it takes not to hit someone when they say something like, Man, thats gay ...We become so numb to what were saying...A culture founded from oppression...Gay is synonymous with the lesser. This song isnt just for those boys. Its for everyone, especially those of us who have ever loved a song for its lyrical genius, for the artist who stops and takes the time to think before they speak, who chooses not any words but the right ones because its only when we think more than we speak that we realize the true weight of the words we use.
