Two cases of Cyber Cheating and Forgery in one week as Reported to us and one case of foiled Theft/ dacoity- Entrepreneurs beware of such situations: INCIDENT A. One of our member Industry with Plants in Faridabad and Bangalore lost Rs.44.0 lacs due to forgery/ tampering of the Cheque and Instruction letter issued for transfer of funds to a Creditor. The Forger, changed the Instruction letter which resulted in transfer of Rs.44.0 lacs to different account and the same was transferred further to different accounts in series of different transfers. Though the investigations and Police chase is on, the trauma and loss to a Small Industry is immense. INCIDENT B. Another member who is into exports and regularly deals with foreign clients faced loss of USD $5,000 (About Rs.3.10 lac). The performa invoice, correspondence and e-mails between this Supplier and foreign buyer were so cunningly tampered by the Cyber criminal that the advance of USD $5000 released by the Buyer to our Member Industry was neatly siphoned to fake account in Nagpur. Efforts are on to trace and recover. INCIDENT C. A member industry reported an incident of forced entry and trespassing in middle of the night in their Factory at Faridabad. Timely call by a Security Guard, message to Police Control Room, Immediate and Timely arrival of PCR and Police Force and about 30 workmen in a neighboring factory foiled the Robbery attempt and forced the robbers (More than 5 in numbers) to retreat. Thanks to the vigilant Police and Neighbours. We, at IamSMEofIndia, share best practices as well as ill-experiences of our Members so as to caution others and prevent future losses. We have done detailed analysis of the above and found that certain checks and precautions by Enterprises can prevent recurring of similar offenses. We at IamSMEofIndia are in the process of appointing services of a Cyber-Crime Prevention and Cyber-Security Firm who shall Train our Members and their Workforce, undertake site Inspections, assess the risks, instal security gadgets and measures so as to create a vigilant environment in our enterprises. For the purpose, we are appointing a Cyber-Security Cell. Following shall be the Project Leaders: Abhishek Goyal, Aman Kumar. Theyll soon present their Report to the IamSMEofIndia Board of Directors and recommend new services for our Members. We invite feedback, suggestions and ideas of all to make it a Strong Cell.
