Two children sprang into action after hearing the pained and heartbreaking cries of a small dog being hit outside their home, grabbing a camera and videotaping the 10-minute beating while their mom called authorities. When officers arrived, they found Mookie, a 3-year-old Cocker Spaniel, was being kept inside a small feces-infested pen and had been neglected. She has since healed and has a new home, in part because of the quick-thinking kids. Chino Hills resident Qihui Zhai, 21, has been charged with animal cruelty, and the videotape was used as evidence to pursue the charges against him, the Inland Valley Humane Society said.
