Two-day blackout in Rajouri as transformer burnt Rajouri , July 21: A 5-KVA (kilo-volt ampere) transformer supplying power to the old Rajouri city was burnt due to overloading on Saturday. The transformer was damaged around 12.15am and power will be restored in another two days, after the power department sends a replacement. Power was made available for two hours to the public at around 10.15am from other feeders. Besides the blackout for two days, Rajouri city is facing acute shortage of power with people getting only six to nine hours of supply a day. Over the past year, residents had sent many proposals to officials and even to the power ministry to replace the 5 KVA transformer with 10 KVA, but to no avail. Former power minister Shabir Ahmed Khan had issued directions in the regard, but the implementation was kept pending. “It can take a week time to repair or reinstall the damaged transformer. This can be very inconvenient for residents, especially during Ramzan. However, on our request, chief engineer Shahnaz Guni has agreed to sent another transformer, which could be installed in 24 hours. This will ensure power is supplied as per the old schedul,” said executive engineer Maqbool Hussain, adding that he hoped that a 10 KVA transformer would be sent.
