Two days ago I noticed Doogie was becoming despondent in his kennel. I knew he needed out, and he deserved to be, but when people step up, that decision making isnt as cut and dry as it may seem. Were talking about a life here. We (the RRAS) dont just hand our animals to anyone who may want them, as we know that just bc someone wants an animal doesnt mean they should have one, nor necessarily deserve one. For starters, we do not want to see them end up back at a shelter. There is never any guarantee, but I feel we must try as hard as we can to reduce those chances, by taking the time to get it right the first time. Were not a rescue, and we dont have the luxury of time, so it can be a bit of a juggling act, and feel like a game of Beat the Clock, but the welfare of the animal should not be compromised in that process of hurry up and get em out. I had some good calls on our boy Doogie, but they just couldnt seem to make it out to the shelter to meet him. Again, simply wanting an animal doesnt necessarily make you a good option. You have to be able to take care of them, meaning routine vet care, such as spay/neuter, and vaccinations for starters. Animals have to be matched up w their family to ensure the best chance of success for all. This young couple drove all the way from Owasso. Their vet check went wonderful, and they spent a great deal of time at the shelter getting acquainted w Doogie before signing on. They are even willing to take him to training, which is the icing on the cake. Responsible pet ownership is what yer lookin at here. Doogie is an awesome dog who now gets to turn the page and begin his happy life. Merry Christmas Doogie, and thank you Tyler and Raeshell for giving him a home in time for the holidays.
