Two former Currumbin Eagles Juniors will don the Australian Defence Force jersey after gaining selection in the Combined Australian Services Rugby League (CASRL) Team. This team is picked from the best and fittest in the Army, Navy and Airforce. Jack Blaine has been in the Army for four years and toured Europe with the CASRL Team last year (Australia won the World Cup). Joel Munro is in his first year with the RAAF and made selection after just one game at Ipswich when Airforce defeated Army for the first time in nine years. Both young men (turning 23 this year) were part of Peter Daleys Under 15 ARL Foundation Shield winning team of 2006, taking out a state win for Currumbin that year. They have represented Gold Coast and then Southern. Joel was a member of the inaugural Titans SG Ball team and Jack was also a junior Titan. Joel played Currumbin Eagles A Grade before going on to play U20s for Seagulls Q Cup. Jack has been playing A Grade in Brisbane. Obviously both love their footy. The CASRL team will take great pride in touring Papua New Guinea later this year with the Prime Ministers 13 and early 2015 will tour Europe. This is something that all junior players can aspire to. The Rugby League pathway is not always the NRL path, there are plenty of other opportunities that can keep them in the game they love. Congratulations Jack & Joel.
