Two juvenile Green sea turtles were rescued today from Navarre - TopicsExpress

Two juvenile Green sea turtles were rescued today from Navarre Beach fishing pier as a result of the Responsible Pier Initiative, a program created and funded by Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC). Both juveniles were accidentally hooked by fishermen on the Navarre Pier, however, do to signage, tools and training provided by LMC, Navarre Pier employees, like Brad, know just what to do! The larger of the two juveniles, measuring 15.5 inches and weighing 12.5 lbs. is in the most danger after swallowing the bait, line and hook. The smaller juvenile, measuring 11.5 and weighing 6.5 lbs. was hooked through its soft tissue and the hook was backed out and removed without incident. After a consult with the FWC and triage by a state permitted stranding volunteer, both greens were transported to the Gulfarium and will be evaluated and treated under their C.A.R.E. program. Thank you Tara for taking such great care of these little guys!
