Two major issues - First, the uncertainties involved in Scotlands future after a Yes vote will almost certainly have a negative economic impact in the short term, on both Scotland and the remaining UK. Eventually a new equilibrium will be reached. The question is, How bad will it be, for how long? This is where the greatest impetus for the No campaign arises. Economic analysis is still more art than science, so one may hear what sounds like plausible argument on both sides. Second, as a resident of Scotland, does one approve of its current governance? Or would one really prefer a government by Scots, for Scots, or at least more nearly that than is currently the case? Some folk are more sensitive to the Fears raised by issue #1, others to the Hopes for a more truly representative Scots government. Many will be upset at having this referendum at all - and having to make a choice. Roughly half will be upset, to varying degree, whichever outcome. Im a long time away from Scotland; my grandfather Buchanan (my middle name) came down to Vermont from Nova Scotia. But my heart is with all Scots this week. I cant stomach The Tories, whatever they like to call themselves these days. I have five different lines of descent which include ancestors who fought in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783). I like to think my vote would be Yes, on principle alone, whatever the cost.
