Two men armed with nine-millimetre pistols shot dead a female contractor in Couva and stole her payroll of some $50,000 on Friday afternoon. Nisha Espinoza, 45, co-owner of Dilliam Steel and Concrete Construction, was pronounced dead at hospital. According to police, around 4.30 p.m., Espinoza and her husband, Ramesh Ramdeo, had just pulled up in their Isuzu van onto the compound of Phoenix Park Gas Processors at the Point Lisas Industrial Estate at Rivulet Road carrying the cash. Police were told the gunmen accosted Espinoza as she exited the vehicle, and while Ramdeo was still seated in the driver’s seat. Espinoza began to struggle with the gunmen, and they shot her several times in the back. They escaped with the cash, as she fell to the ground. Her husband took her to the Couva District Health Facility where she died. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Monday. Espinoza lived at Sisters’ Road, New Grant, Princes Town. Sgt Andy Mohammed of the Couva Police Station is investigating. —SM
