Two men have been charged over the theft of fuel, vehicles and vehicle parts in the Coffs Harbour area. On Wednesday 18 June 2014, 400 litres of diesel fuel was stolen from an excavator that was parked on the Pacific Highway, near Englands Road. The following morning (Thursday 19 June 2014), a vehicle holding yard on Industrial Drive, Coffs Harbour, was broken into and a number of diesel-fuelled vehicles, vehicle parts and keys were stolen. The value of the stolen items was in excess of $170,000. At 2.30am on Friday 20 June 2014, police were involved in a pursuit with a black Holden utility, however this pursuit was terminated and the vehicle was not stopped. Strike Force Doura was formed by officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command to investigate the thefts. As a result of their inquiries, last month, police executed two search warrants at homes in North Boambee Valley and Upper Orara. During the warrants, officers seized four vehicles – three of which had been burnt out – as well as a number of vehicle parts, keys, MDMA, steroids, ammunition and a police baton. Police will allege the three burnt out vehicles had been stolen from the Coffs Harbour holding yard on 19 June 2014; while the fourth car – a Toyota Landcruiser – had been re-birthed after being stolen from Tamworth in April 2014. On Tuesday (1 July 2014), police arrested a 21-year-old Coffs Harbour man and charged him with aggravated break and enter and an outstanding warrant. He was refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday (7 July 2014). Yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2014), police arrested a 26-year-old North Boambee Valley man. He was charged with 14 offences; including aggravated break and enter, supplying a prohibited drug, possessing prohibited weapon, police pursuit – not stop – Skye’s Law, and possessing ammunition. The man was refused bail and appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Thursday 3 July 2014), where he was granted conditional bail. He is due to re-appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday 15 July 2014.
