Two men have handed themselves into police after images posted on the NSW Police Facebook page went viral and reached an audience of 180,000 people today. About 2:30pm, police posted CCTV images of two men who were wanted for questioning over an alleged assault on a train between Sydney Olympic Park and Central Railway Station. During the incident, which occurred about 11:50pm on Saturday 27 September 2014, a 48-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face a number of times. He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and underwent plastic surgery for a laceration to his lip. He also sustained a broken nose, two black eyes and a laceration to his forehead. In the space of two hours the online post reached an audience of 180,000 people and attracted more than 1000 shares, 490 likes and 370 comments. As a direct result of the Facebook post, a 26-year-old man attended Penrith Police Station at 4:30pm today (Tuesday 30 September 2014) where he was arrested by police. His brother, aged 28, then contacted investigators at Sydney City Local Area Command before detectives attended his house in Zetland and arrested him. He was taken to Day Street Police Station and is also assisting with inquires. Investigations into the alleged assault are continuing and police would like to thank the community and our online followers for their information and assistance.
