Two months ago when I saw who amongst the Republican primary candidates got the moolah, I knew who would win. Recently imported from Massachusetts and former U.S. Senator, Scott Brown, won the Republican nod to challenge U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the Democrat incumbent. Walt Havenstein, former BAE CEO, ponied up $1.4 million of his own cash and won the Republican nomination to challenge Governor Maggie Hassan, a Democrat. Merilinda Garcia got Club for Growth money, and will challenge Democrat Anne Kuster for the Second District Congressional seat. Frank Guinta, a former Manchester Mayor and First District Congressman, squeaked by Dan Innis, who received support from some weighty Republican PACS. This was the toughest call of them all because Innis got some real money, but was unknown prior to putting his name in the race. The result: a rubber match between the Democrat incumbent Carol Shea Porter and Guinta for the First District Congressional seat. The General election will follow along the same lines: Who has the cash coming in from the big 501(c) 4, secret, non profit political machines. This election showed that its these outfits, with their immense money power unleashed by the US. Supreme Courts 2010 Citizens United ruling, who will control our elections. They chose the Republicans who won yesterday. We shall see what happens the next several weeks. This is a new era. What is being challenged is our Democracy and the institution called free elections. I dont know how it will turn out, but Im not encouraged. Its why I say Democracy. Capitalisms last opponent. The betting money is that Capitalism will win and the autocratic private sector will finally control our federal government--precisely the opposite of what our Constitution intended.
