Two of English football’s bitterest rivals go head to head at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Manchester United entertain Manchester City in the Premier League. United have endured a difficult season under new manager David Moyes, but three wins from their last four games suggests that they have turned a corner. Meanwhile, City come into the match looking to close the gap on Chelsea. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are currently six points behind the leaders with three games in hand. United will be keen to avenge their 4-1 defeat away to the Blues back in September when goals from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri, combined with a Sergio Aguero brace, saw the former champions thrash their neighbours. Robin van Persie is missing for the hosts with an ankle injury, though Nemanja Vidic is expected to return to the starting XI having served a one-game ban. Antonio Valencia is likely to face a late fitness test after suffering an eye problem against Olympiacos last week. Sergio Aguero is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury for the visitors, while Matija Nastasic is also unavailable. Vincent Kompany returns after completing a suspension
