Two people are in custody following the death of a woman in Salford. At 5.22pm on Sunday 27 July 2014, police received a call from the ambulance service stating the body of a woman had been found in the back garden of a house on St Heliers Drive. Officers attended and found the body of a 49-year-old woman. She had suffered some cuts to the head and was declared dead at the scene. A post mortem examination will take place later today to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. A 34-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody for questioning. Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick, of the Major Incident Team, said: “We are still in the early stages of this investigation so we do not yet know exactly what happened. “We can say that a woman has died in sudden and tragic circumstances and we are determined to find out what led up to this. “We have arrested two people in connection with the death and this will allow us to interview them under caution and to get full accounts from them. “We have already spoken to a number of neighbours and this will continue throughout the day. As a result, residents will see an increased police presence in the area and we trust they will be reassured by this. “We also intend to keep people updated as the investigation progresses.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
