Two people remain in hospital in a critical condition following a four-vehicle crash near Pottsville yesterday. About 12pm (Tuesday 27 January 2015), a 61-year-old man was driving a Holden Commodore sedan south along the Pacific Highway, Cudgera Creek – about 6km west of Pottsville. A 78-year-old woman with an 84-year-old male passenger was also travelling south along the same road in a Toyota Corolla sedan, when the two vehicles collided. The Toyota Corolla was seen to cross a median strip and enter the north bound lanes, before it collided with a Kia travelling north, driven by a 26-year-old woman and with a 31-year-old male passenger. The Toyota collided with one more vehicle in the north bound lanes – driven by an 18-year-old woman and with a 22-year-old female passenger, before coming to a stop. Emergency services were called and the occupants of the Toyota Corolla were airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital, where they remain in a critical condition. The remaining drivers and passengers involved in the incident received minor injuries and were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital. A 61-year-old man remains in hospital for observation; however all other people have been released. Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, Crash Investigation Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol, Ambulance Paramedics and Rural Fire Service all attended the scene.
