Two people were killed and two others injured Monday when Indian army troops at a check post fired at a vehicle that allegedly jumped the inspection point in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Soldiers of 53 RR at the check post in Chattergam area fired at the fleeing vehicle, which resulted in bullet injuries to four occupants, a police source said. Two people were critically injured and died in the armys Base Hospital in Srinagar, while the other two were reportedly battling for life in the hospitals critical care facility. Army and police officers rushed to the spot to find out about the firing. The persons who got killed are Faizal and Mehraj while the two injured are Zahid and Shakeel. In a press release issued here, the Indian army said: based on the specific intelligence reports about the movement of militants in a white Maruti 800 Car along Nowgam to Pulwama road, three Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) were established along the road. At approximately, 5 PM, a white Maruti 800 Car approached the first check point where the personnel tried to stop the car but it did not stop. Again at the second check point, the vehicle was stopped but it did not stop. At the third check point, the vehicle tried to barge through the check point, resulting into a firing incident in which four persons were injured. The injured were rushed to the Army Base Hospital, Srinagar, the army claimed in the press release. Army regrets the loss of lives and has ordered an enquiry to investigate into the circumstance leading to the incident. Anyone found guilty will be severely dealt with, the army statement said. A senior police official said that they have lodged an FIR and were investigating the matter. Inspector General Police (IGP) Kashmir A G Mir said they have lodged an FIR into the incident. “Law will take its own course,” he said. All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani while condemning the incident said, “Indian troops are killing civilians which is highly condemnable. People should show their anger against such killings.”
