Two quick notes -- _____ 1. We tend to generalize from our personal experiences way too much. Direct human experience is necessarily limited. Some things are more or less true across human experience, but we should be careful about presuming we know which things those are. We often get this very wrong. 2. Imagine two ships, both sinking. On one ship the people on board decide to vote for someone to be the captain. Two people are nominated, but only one received more votes. That person becomes the captain, after choosing, all realize they have a mutual interest in working together for their mutual survival. On the other ship, it is a similar situation, except that after the election, the people who supported the winning candidate start acting imperiously, and the people who supported the other candidate start scheming against the person who one. They barely speak to each other, let alone cooperate on anything. Meanwhile, both ships are rapidly sinking into the sea. Which ship would you prefer to be on? ____ Enjoy the rest of your morning.
