Two rather dramatic cases this evening. This chap on wheelchair - TopicsExpress

Two rather dramatic cases this evening. This chap on wheelchair took taxi all the way from Clementi to see me for help because he knew we gave out vouchers. Claimed that he was framed and would be losing his public assistance. Hs used to stay in the area. We know this chap. We had helped him before, and we particularly remember the time we provided him with vouchers for spectacles but he went to kick up a fuss in the shop and shopping centre, wanting more expensive glasses. He claimed that he could not walk but apparently had been filmed and featured before by those who tracked him. We will verify. He wanted several months worth of vouchers. I told him I will provide him groceries to help out and will check with the authorities about his case. He was very demanding with my volunteers about what he wanted. And he also said that he would be going elsewhere to seek help next time since we were less than forthcoming. How dramatic? We had already offered him some makan earlier but he even asked people to pick up the stuff on the floor claiming he was very hungry and needed food. If genuine, we will make sure he gets the help he needs so we will follow up. We know of serial MPS appellants who go from place to place to collect help. Some are very good at what they do. In another case, which is a first for me, an elderly lady asked me to provide our free lunch for her domestic help. She seemed like any nice old granny but she felt that she would prefer to have her domestic help consume our free meals rather than to buy lunch for her. I was taken aback. I was even more shocked that she said all this in front of her domestic help. I think she didnt even feel that this was wrong. Had to spend some time advicing her on the matter. A more happy case...Glad to see the baby of a lady we were helping. Her child was premature but good that the baby was finally back from hospital and looked fine. Got her some Similac and will follow up further. We hope that we can tide them over and get them on their own feet. Thanks to a few of our new volunteers who came by. About 60+ new volunteers met up over the weekend as we explained to them what we did and how they could chip in further. A few started today, along with others who have been coming by over time. Cheers! Off to shoot with the guys tomorrow morning...I mean later this morning...
