Two stills from the webcam over the ferry slip on the Chappaquiddick side (chappyferry/web-cams) of the truck driving through the barrier and off the ramp around 11:25 this morning. We expect to offer video tomorrow. Meanwhile, as a fan page for the ferry, we salute assistant harbor master Mike Hathaway for the speedy rescue of the driver; the police, EMTs and firefighters who swarmed to the scene on both sides of the harbor; Captain Jeff LaMarche and deckhands Jerry Jeffers and Caleb Enos of the ON TIME III who called in some of the earliest reports of the accident from the Edgartown slip; and ferry co-owner Peter Wells and maintenance manager Erik Gilley for their swift, practiced and poised response to a most unusual and frightening event. With the Chappaquiddick ferry, it all looks quite routine until expertise of the highest order is called for. It happens rarely and almost always without warning. And just about every time in a way that no one could predict.
