Two strong victims-rights-focussed female prosecutors -- Elizabeth Lederer and Linda Fairstein -- who investigated the brutal attack in real time when it happened, vs. a new mayor advised by Al Sharpton. Guess who won? Central Park `Five prosecutor Elizabeth Lederer [who, btw, still receives death threats], unable to defend her case publicly due to a gag order imposed by law enforcement, said she was disappointed by the [$41 million payout, NON-trial] deal. `I had hoped the city would let the trial shed light on what really happened, said Lederer, speaking for the first time. `I was very much looking forward to my day in court.....Lederer [and] her ex-boss Linda Fairstein..plained that the new [DeBlasio] administration ignored years of hard work done by city attorneys. `The settlement ignores [the `Fives] participation in the Jogger attack, Fairstein said. And Sharpton said publicly -- while the jogger, Tricia Melli, was lying near death from an extraordinarily brutal attack and grievous injuries (of which the [DNA-traceable] rape itself was the least of it ) -- that Melli had been raped by her boyfriend.
