Two thing comes into my mind when i hear of this on going fight between boranaa and gujiis in liban... 1]Do we blame woyane of the civil war that is going on between Boranaa and Guji???????.... 2]same says OPDO`s are the one who catalys the fight, I am literally devastated to learn an ongoing conflict between Oromos in Liban, the ritual capital of the Borana Gada system that suddenly turned into a flash-point. To be honest, I don’t know the immediate cause of this round of conflict, nor do I have heard of the history of conflict between these two tribes in this location, either. I didn’t garner information from the local populace to the extent I want. The information coming from that region is conflicting, but I have learned, from different sources, that fifteen people have either wounded or died on the first and second days (together) of the conflict, five from Guji and 10 from Borana. On the third day of the conflict, my sources estimate fatalities at fifteen, but they could not establish how many from Borana or Guji died exactly. Neither the zonal administration nor the local cadres made a concrete effort so far to de-escalate the tension. Nor the local people are mobilizing their traditional institutions to settle the issue to restore normalcy according to their tradition. Currently, the war is raging in three fronts among the tribal warriors in the vicinity of Nagalle Borana, the city whose name change gave rise to a tension to form between the two tribes. For sure, this has never been the immediate nor ultimate cause of the hostility. Nor the skirmish is about water nor pasture as it used to be back in days. In that region, the government, as opposed to creating harmony between and among ethnic groups, is known for its role in creating and fostering confrontation. A case in point is a ritual devastating skirmishes between the Oromo and Somalli clans. Now, it is making Oromos to a fight among each other, which is, if non existent, a rare incident since 1991. No doubt, this is part of a government campaign to divert the attention of our Guji people from their legitimate grievances in Shakkiso and elsewhere. In the same way, it is the strategy to weaken our Borana people and deny favorable atmosphere for the operation of OLF. The Oromo medias and scholars must say that this war is not to our advantage, rather undermines the cause of Oromo and Oromummaa. It is a tragedy. It neither benefits Borana nor Guji. There is no winner. The outcome for both is nothing but destruction, the disruption of the social order, dislocation, and, above all the loss of the most precious human lives. The Borana and Guji elites, please stop escalating the animosity!!! Reasonable and moderate voice, please air your opinions!!! We cannot afford more human losses and destruction. Enough is Enough. Borana and Guji unite for peace. Resolve your conflicts according to your custom: Gada system. Gurraacha, nagaa nu guuti!!
