Two things concerning me today. One, Kenyas interior cabinet secretary Mr Joseph Nkaissery has suspended rallies and demonstration in Narok for fear it could degenerate into violence. Locals were planning to demonstrate against the county government for stealing money collected from Masai Mara animal reserve. How is such a genuine demonstration be misconstrued as a security threat? Instead of suspending demonstration, Nkaissery should have provided security to ensure safe demonstration. Demonstrations and presentation of petitions to the authorities is a very inalienable right deeply embedded in our constitution. Suspending demonstration against corruption is tantamount to enabling corruption. Secondly, the impotent National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Kakamega Senator Hon Bonny Khalwale to over alleged hate speech he made during the funeral of the late Fidel Odinga. Khalwale criticized the government for skewed employment procedure that is advantageous to some tribes and disadvantageous to others. In particular, khalwale said Kikuyu and Kalenjin benefits as more as other tribes like Luhya etc either gets menial employment or are bypassed altogether. How is that hateful when governments own agency called public service commission published a finding in which reflected Khalwales sentiments? You dont fight tribalism and hate speech by witch-hunting those opposed to the government. Tribalism and hate is fought by having an honest discussion, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and applying laws without prejudices!
