Two threads on the same page; a page of grassroots activists i deeply respect; lead me back once again to the seemingly timeless question: what is the relationship between the Left and the DP? First of all. is there anything that resemble the Left in America; and does it have any real influence on the DP leadership in Wisconsin or America? Depending on ones definitions and historical perspective the answers are basically no and no. So now we have leftists squabbling amongst themselves concerning the Burke candidacy. Quite frankly, this is one of the primary functions of the DP in this era: to fracture and smother social justice movements so they never gain any real traction in altering the overarching reality of a corporatist status quo. The DP throws crumbs to its progressive wing to extort votes and electoral foot soldiers each election cycle; then throws any hint of a progressive agenda under the bus until the next election cycle. We now confront the situation of a state DP leadership which treats the candidate selection process like the North Korean Politburo, crowns a business heiress as its ordained gubernatorial choice long before a primary, which the struggle mightily to keep from happening at all; and then insult anyone with the slightest misgivings as a supporter of the current regime with their zero sum logic. I cant think of a more effective way to alienate the left leaning base of the electorate than what the Tater Tots have been doing in Wisconsin. Then when disaster strikes for the third time, guess who will to be blame? Why, of course, the alienated who didnt get on board the sock puppet express. This is the thanks the grassroots gets for having the audacity to erupt with the largest and loudest call for popular sovereignty in this republic in more than a generation. So you tell me, my dear ones, is the DP an enemy or an ally? Im sure you know my answer, but it doesnt matter. What matters is how you answer the question, and what that means for you.
