Two-time PBR World Champion Alves closes gap on world lead, poised to win third world title Triplett wins Monster Energy Bulls on the Beach HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2014) – A rocking crowd of nearly 5,000 fans packed Huntington Beach for the Monster Energy Bulls on the Beach to watch Matt Triplett claim his first-career 15/15 Bucking Battle win, while two-time World Champion Silvano Alves gained ground in the PBR world standings. Triplett’s ride of 87 points on Oklahoma Bell (Jeff Robinson) was one of four qualified rides on the day, earning the Montana native the win and $7,500. It moved him to within 2,026.67 points of world leader Joao Ricardo Vieira, solidifying Triplett as a contender for the world title entering next week’s PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals. Alves, currently ranked third in the world, placed fourth with an 80.5-point ride on Alright, Alright, Alright (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls). He turned down a re-ride to move to within 516.19 points of Vieira, who lasted just 2.64 seconds on Fire Rock. Fabiano Vieira, who currently sits second in the world standings, bucked off Walk Off in 5.36 seconds. World No. 5 Mike Lee also turned down a re-ride to gain ground on the world leader with 81.25 points on Ridin’ Dirty No Restraint (KMH Bucking Bulls, LLC). The effort marked his first qualified ride since his win in Laughlin, Nevada, and was good enough for a third-place finish in Huntington Beach. Also on the move was Marco Eguchi, who jumped from No. 13 to No. 11 in the world standings with a second-place finish. Eguchi posted 84.75 points atop Velvet Rain (Nunes Livestock). With 5,500 points available at the World Finals, the title is still within the grasp of many of the top riders. No. 1 Joao Ricardo Vieira is seeking his first world championship; No. 2 Alves is looking for his third; No. 3 Fabiano Vieira wants to hold the trophy for the first time; and No. 4 Guilherme Marchi and No. 5 Lee are striving for their second world titles. Percolator (Jeff Robinson) put up the highest bull score of the event, earning 45 out 50 points, bucking off Emilio Resende in 7.65 seconds. Mick E Mouse (Marlene Henry), meanwhile, nearly yielded his first qualified ride when Marchi, the 2008 World Champion, took him to 7.19 seconds before hitting the ground. Mick E Mouse, who has not been ridden in 26 outs on the BFTS, was the $25,000 Bad Boy Mowers Bounty Bull and a qualified ride would have put $25,000 in Marchi’s pocket. All of the action from the Monster Energy Bulls on the Beach can be seen on CBS Television Network, Sunday at 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. ET. Please check your local listings for the time in your area. The PBR is headed to Las Vegas next week for the Built Ford Tough World Finals, the season finale with $2.2 million up for grabs.
