Two very fine classic sixteen foot Peterborough canoes for Camp - TopicsExpress

Two very fine classic sixteen foot Peterborough canoes for Camp Bigwee (Harrison/Hartzell cottage) on Lake Temagami. The provenance for these canoes is they appear on a bill of sale dated 1951 as part of the inventory for the camp as two Peterborough canoes. I suspect they may have been built during the war, since they have steel stem bands, and there was a shortage of brass for civilian use. There were signs that they had both been rebuilt once before. Replaced nine ribs total, new gunwales for both, recaned one seat, stripped interior of one and refinished, and both covered with #10 canvas, traditional filler, Benjamin-Moore Carnival Red Impervo Enamel
