Two years ago to the day I had the privilege of preaching the funeral for a Christian brother, friend, and member of Highlands Baptist Church. Last year while I was teaching in Africa during the Christmas holiday another dear friend from Highlands went to be with the Lord. I preached his funeral upon my return. This morning I received a phone call that a dear faithful member of Highlands has entered into Gods presence. A few hours after this I received an email informing me that a friend and co-laboerer in Africa also entered into eternity today. We rejoice in their deliverance. We grieve with their families. This is an important reminder in the midst of our holiday festivities that we are not celebrating skiing, snow, decorations, food, a new gadget, or time off from school. We celebrate the truth that the Light of the world has come into our darkness; Life has walked into the dungeon of our death; the Way, the Truth, and the Life became human and offered salvation to the world by faith in His life, death, and resurrection! Jesus said to Martha, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26). What is your answer to Jesus question, Do you believe this?
