Typhoon Glenda with international name Rammasun is now out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It exited at 8:00 a.m. today, July 17. The typhoon is moving west northwest at 20 kilometers per hour. All public storm warning signals have been lowered. Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and the provinces of Mindoro, Palawan, La Union, Benguet and Pangasinan will continue to experience occasional rains due to the enhanced effects of the southwest monsoon. Bye Glenda, hello Henry? Meantime, weather bureau PAGASA is monitoring a new low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility some 900 kilometers east of northern Mindanao. The weather disturbance is expected to enter PAR within 24 hours. Once it enters PAR, it will be called Henry. Even the US Joint Typhoon Watch Center (JTWC) raised the status of this new weather disturbance in the South Pacific. Theres a chance it will intensify into a tropical depression as it remains over water. PAGASA is looking at two scenarios. The first, that it will make landfall, and the second, with a bigger probability that it will only stay close to Luzon but wont hit land. Project NOAH Executive Director Dr. Mahar Lagmay says Filipinos should prepare for the incoming LPA the way they prepared for Glenda, if the new weather disturbance makes a landfall. Since its [LPA] is still in the Pacific Ocean, then it will still gain strength. The reason why Glenda went straight to the Philippines is because theres a high pressure area somewhere in Japan, and it was preventing Glenda from going up. [Glenda] stayed down, thats why it traversed the Philippines. If theres no high pressure area there somewhere in Japan (remember there was a typhoon there somewhere there when Glenda passed the Philippines, now theres none), that other scenario of this tropical depression Henry going up will probably be higher, Lagmay says. Tropical cyclones in the month of July usually take a northwestward track. That means this new LPA could follow the track of Florita which didnt make landfall
