Typhoon "ODETTE" has accelerated and gained more strength as it moves closer to Extreme Northern Luzon. Location of Center: (as of 10:00 a.m.) 350 km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or at 360 km East of Calayan Island, Cagayan Coordinates: 19.5°N, 125.1°E Strength: Maximum winds of 205 kph near the center and Gustiness of up to 240 kph Movement: Forecast to move Northwest at 19 kph Forecast Positions/ Outlook: Saturday morning: 50 km East of Basco, Batanes Sunday morning: Outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 310 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes Areas Having Public Storm Warning Signal PSWS # Luzon Visayas Mindanao Signal No. 4 ( >185 kph winds is expected in at least 12 hours) Batanes Group of Islands None None Signal No.3 (101-185 kph winds is expected in at least 18 hours) Calayan Group of Islands Babuyan Group of Islands None None Signal No. 2 (61-100 kph winds is expected in at least 24 hours) Cagayan Apayao Ilocos Norte None None Signal No. 1 (30-60 kph winds is expected in at least 36 hours) Abra Kalinga Isabela Northern Aurora Quirino Nueva Vizcaya Benguet La Union Ilocos Sur Mt. Province Ifugao None None Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 - 20 mm per hour (heavy-intense) within the 900 km diameter of the Typhoon. Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signals #4, #3, #2 & #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal # 4, #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges. "ODETTE" will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas. Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against flashfloods and landslides. Sea travel is risky over the western seaboard of Southern Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas. The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.
